As we mentioned last week, it’s walking season, and that means that it’s time to start preparing your teams! There are walks for any number of important causes, such as Autism, Breast Cancer, ALS, Alzheimer’s and MS. Each walk is different. Some are long distance walks or races. Others are all night fundraisers, like Relay for Life. Others are a shorter 5K race. Regardless of what kind of walk you’re doing, there a few things that you can do to thoroughly prepare yourself for your event:
1. Form your team. Walking for a cause is always more fun when you do it with a support system. For some walks, like Relay For Life, having a team is also a great idea because you can participate in the event in shifts while other members of the team rest. Regardless of the kind of walk you want to do, having a team is a great way to raise the maximum amount of money for the cause of your choice, spread awareness to more people and connect with others who share the same passion for your cause.
2. Figure out what you need. How long is the walk? You’re going to want to be prepared. For overnight events or longer walks, you might need to bring lots of water, coolers and other things to keep your team hydrated and prepared throughout the entire walk. This won’t exactly be necessary for all walks, but it’s a good idea to know what to expect prior to the event.
3. Come up with a creative way to spread awareness. While for most of these events fundraising isn’t required, most people who attend do want to show their support for the cause by raising money. Having a team is helpful because you can come up with creative ways to fundraise and divide and conquer. Whether it’s through throwing a bake sale, a car wash or reach out to other friends and family, you’ll want to prepare some sort of plan for this.
4. Get your personalized walk apparel. No team is complete without the right garb. There are plenty of affordable options for the right team t-shirt. Check out our website for some design ideas. We have apparel for any number of causes that will make your team look sharp and on-point come the day of your walk.
5. Start training. If you’re participating in a long-distance walk or run for a cause, it’s time to start training! Consult your doctor and do some research on the right exercise program for you. The more prepared you are, the better time you’ll have at your walk.
We hope you all enjoy your walks this year. Feel free to share your story on our Facebook page or visit our website for personalized cause apparel. We want to work with you to spread awareness. Have a great day!
